Welcome dear friends....
Well, I finally got round to it !!
I've been meaning to do something like this for a long time. In fact, I've always wanted to keep a diary but never had the discipline, so here is my concerted effort to rectify that situation.
So, for those who don't know me, and I'd imagine that's most of you, let me fill you in.
My name is Rob. I am soon to be 35 and live in the wonderful city of Norwich. I mean that, by the way. Norwich is the city of my birth and I really feel proud to live here. I live with my partner Jackie and we have 2 children. David is 16 and is Jackie's son from her first marriage. Sofia is almost a year old and is my first child. Our second child together is currently 5 weeks into gestation !
I live in an area of Norwich called Bowthorpe. We've been here a few months now. We moved here because our last landlord wanted to sell the house so it was more forced upon us than anything. Not that Bowthorpe is a nasty place, in fact in many parts it's quite nice, but it does suffer from a higher than average Chav population ! Still, it's quiet where we are and that's all that matters.
I currently work for a very large, very well known Telecomms company as a Field Sales Consultant within the Retail division. Right now, after what I've heard about people blogging and referring to their employers and getting in to trouble, they will remain nameless, seeing as I will most likely be saying a lot of negative things about them. I only took this job as my last position was made redundant and I had to get some sort of gainful employment to feed my family.
So, you might be asking, "Why 'Failed Muso'?" Well, ever since I can remember, I have wanted to be a musician who earns a living from making/performing music. Seeing as I am now 35 and stuck in a lifestyle that requires me to earn a regular decent wage, I consider myself to have failed in that ambition. This saddens me greatly and I guess maybe I'm a a tad bitter about it, but I have no one but myself to blame for my shortcomings.
I have been in a number of bands but these only ever amounted to decent (and some not so decent) pub covers bands who all coincidentally had lead singers that suffered from "Leadsingeregoitis", therefore, clashes were inevitable and I either left or was "asked to leave" ;o)
As far as my music ambitions now go, I still have a reasonable amount of kit set up so that I can tinker, but a while back I met a great friend called Steve Howell, who runs a site called Hollow Sun. This site got my juices flowing again and I have contributed to his site and we have collaborated on a few things, which may one day turn in to bigger things. I am currently working on a Fairlight Project, although that went on hold recently when we moved house but should get back online soon. This will hopefully result in a complete collection of the original Fairlight sample library, spruced up for today's modern samplers.
So, in short, I'm a man who has a perfect homelife, a shitty worklife and a failed ambition to earn money from music. Only a few years ago, I had a shitty homelife, a great worklife and was still a failed musician. All I need to do is sort out the shitty part of my life and maybe, one day, the music might just pay a bill or two.
Thanks for reading and come back soon.
Rob.
