Software synths that try to look like hardware

Whilst researching images for another post, it struck me how often soft synth manufacturers promote their products with images of their synth looking like a piece of hardware.

Now don't get me wrong, some of these renders are beautiful, but I find it amusing that something that tries so hard not to be hardware, tries so hard to look like it in promotional material. Is it because, deep down, we all still know that the hardware is the more respectable and reliable medium ?? ;o)
