Afternoon all, long time no speak !

Well, it's been a long time hasn't it !

Since last we spoke, it's been business as usual here. Work is as shite as ever ! But then, as we all know, sales jobs are not for decent, honest people. You really have to be a certain type of individual to be successful in a sales organisation. The "successful" people in my job are the devious, dishonest, back-stabbing, lying, cheating, "sell your own granny", slimy low life's you are ever likely to meet. Thankfully I am not one of these, but unfortunately this means I am considered as "unsuccessful" and in need of change. I am repeatedly told that I need to "redress my work life balance" in favour of my job, spending less time with my family and more time getting shafted for my bosses benefit. If you have ever seen the movie Glengarry Glen Ross you have some idea what it is like.

So, I hear you all say, why don't you leave ? Well, it's not for want of trying. I recently had an interview but was turned down due to not having enough experience in the property market. The job was for a Regional Trainer, training Letting Agents on using a bespoke piece of software. I have never worked in the lettings industry, although I have much experience from the tenants point of view ! Nowhere on my CV does it suggest that I might have had experience in this field, yet they still invited me for an interview. Anyway, the interview went well, and I was told I would hear within the week. Some two weeks later, and with no communication from them, I called their office for some information.

"You haven't received any correspondence from us then ?", they asked, only then to be told of the negative outcome. Wankers !

So, the search goes on.

Family wise, 9 weeks to go to the birth of the new one. Jackie is suffering with her breathing, but is soldiering on. My daughter is growing fast and is an eternal joy.

On the music front, I have recently bought Propellerheads Reason and am finding it really enjoyable. I like the "all in one" aspect. A lot of people bemoan it for not being able to host VSTi's but I actually like the restrictions (if you can call them as such) of having 6 extremely flexible and powerful instruments that work every time without any host issues. Saying that, Ableton Live 5 is also occupying a lot of my time. It's such a breath of fresh air and so simple and flexible. The free version of ReBirth that we were all treated to recently is still good fun, but it does show it's age. Even so, it's a great piece of kit and enormous fun.

I bought The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown the other week and am finding it a gripping read. It's caused quite a stir since it first came out and I can see why. It challenges many established points of view, especially the concept of Christianity. The author claims that all historical facts in the book are real and accurate, many dispute this, again, especially the Catholic Church. I have been interested in the theories behind this book for some time and all Dan Brown has done is tie them all together into a gripping thriller. Many have taken his book as a factual attack on the established belief of Christ as the divine son of the Christian God. Quite why this causes outrage is beyond me. Why should any religion be exempt from investigation and criticism ? Challenging accpeted beliefs is what has driven mankind on through the ages. Most of the story that Dan Brown bases his novel on is true and undisputed yet the western, Christian dominated world perpetuate these myths for their own gain and power. I could go into detail, but there isn't enough space and time today ! As an example, we all know that all Christian holy days are actually based on old Pagan religious celebrations (Christmas, Easter, etc). These came about after the Roman Emperor Constantine , who was a pagan sun worshiper, decided to amalgamate Paganism with Christianity in a bid to appease both sets of believers. Yet the Christian church has ritually and ruthlessly tried to stamp out and discredit all Pagan beliefs as evil and wrong.

The thing with the book is that it asks the questions that have been surpressed since the 80's when the last major Grail book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail, came out and that is a good thing in itself. Whether the Grail exists or not, whether Mary Magdelene was Jesus' wife and bore his child or not, it's a fantastic story and deserves attention. I look forward to the film, due out on May 19th 2006, starring Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Alfred Molina & Paul Bettany and directed by Ron Howard.

Well, hopefully I'll add more to this as soon as I can, but a lot of the time I don't have the energy to be too verbose during the evenings. My Sleep Apnoea is under review again as I am beginning to feel more tired again. I recently had a sleep test and they need to see me again in 6 months when it should normally be in a year.

All the best,

Rob.
