Boom Fucking Chik

Ok, I relented and here's a picture that has been doing the rounds on synth blogs everywhere and they're all followed by hundreds of fanboys jerking off over it, trying to convince each other that their interpretation of it's spec is the right one and that they all know how good it's going to be because it's designed by Roger Linn & Dave Smith.

AAARGGHHH !!!

This is one of the biggest pieces of web speculation in the synth world for a long, long time. But it's just a poster. A poster of a picture. A poster of a picture of a picture.

It's a bad render, it's ugly as sin and had it been branded with some other obscure, never heard of name, no-one would give it 5 minutes. However, plaster the names of Smith & Linn all over it and all of a sudden it's the uber drum machine, the likes of which have never been seen before !!

Don't get me wrong. I fully respect Messers Smith & Linn as masters of their craft, deserving of reverance, but I tell you this, the guy that came up with that poster is just as much of a genius. He tapped into every synth geeks psychi and provided the ultimate synth pr0n for them. You can hear the five knuckle shuffles going off all over the world to this beauty.

It has been "reported" that Smith & Linn are merely contemplating this concept, so in my skeptical eyes, it's still just an idea, therefore I hope you can see my incredulity at the furore this little poster has conjured up.

If this device does ultimately see the light of day, I am sure it will be a lovely bit of kit, much like the rest of Smith & Linn's work (think Evolver, PolyEvolver, Adrenalinn) but a small part of me wishes it doesn't see the light of day, just to teach the fanboys not to have one off the wrist so quickly over a poor Photoshop image, other than their Lara Croft collection ;o)

I don't know, I think us geeks will go crazy over anything like this. Remember those synth hoaxes - Bahn Sage and SMS2000.

This is a real idea for a potentially real product. I think if anyone said they were planning to build an analog/digital hybrid drum machine with mpc pads, they'd get attention!

    REALLY ugly, though!
